Dr. Jack Iwashyna co-directs the Research Core at the VA Ann Arbor Health Services Research & Development (HSR&D) Center for Clinical Management Research (CCMR). He is an Associate Professor of Medicine at the University of Michigan and Faculty Associate of the Survey Research Center, where he also helps lead the National Clinician Scholars Program. Throughout his career he has focused on the ways in which the organization of ICU care contributes to improved quality and efficiency of care. He is internationally recognized for his development of the concept of “survivorship” in the ICU setting, and for his empirical and conceptual work to define the problems of survivorship for patients who survive sepsis. Of late his work has turned to exploring ways in which survivors of sepsis can help each other through both peer support and partnership as part of professional organizations.
