Matthias Wienold, is a physician and master of public health. He works consulting physicians around issues of economic and regulatory practice in the State of Brandenburg (Germany).
Being an internationally experienced HIV/AIDS-activist, researcher in community participation and champion for patient safety, he currently serves as Treasurer of the International Alliance of Patient Organizations. He promotes the patients’role in medical education and the innovations of patients` organizations. He contributes as a patient blogger to the British Medical Journal. Matthias identifies with the patients’voices of sepsis survivors. He survived sepsis in Feb 2016. His insistence on symptoms (sweats, fatigue, fevers, rapid breath) and his response “I think I will die” got him an X-ray and treatment. He aims to contribute to a more rapid implementation of the new clinical case definition to save more lives.
