Adrianus Mattheus 'Arjen' Dondorp

Professor Dondorp got his medical degree from the University of Amsterdam in The Netherlands. He did his specialist training in Internal Medicine, Infectious Diseases, and Critical Care at the Academic Medical Centre in Amsterdam. His PhD from the University of Amsterdam was on the pathophysiology of severe falciparum malaria. End 2000 he moved to Bangkok to join the Mahidol-Oxford Tropical Medicine Research Unit (MORU), a joint programme of the University of Oxford and the Faculty of Tropical Medicine, Mahidol University. Professor Dondorp is currently the Deputy Director and Head of the Malaria and Critical Illness Department at MORU. In 2011 he became Professor of Tropical Medicine at the University of Oxford, and in the same year Visiting Professor of Clinical Tropical Medicine at Mahidol University. His main research interests include the pathophysiology and treatment of severe malaria, antimalarial drug resistance and the improvement of intensive care practice in developing countries. He is a member of the European Society of Intensive Care Medicine working group on the development of Intensive Care Medicine in resource-poor countries. He has published over 300 papers in international medical journals.
