Prof. Mamoun Homeida is currently holding a governmental post as State Minister of Health, Khartoum, Sudan and has recently been given the first order from the President of Sudan the “Award of Nielen” in appreciation to his great services that he has given to the country. He is an expert consultant in combating and elimination of Onchocerciasis. He was a member of Community Directed Intervention (TDR, WHO BLII), was a member of the Filariasis Task Force (TDR WHO), was a member and chairman of Technical Consultative Committee (TCC), African Programme of Onchocerciasis (APOC), was a President of the Sudanese Association of Physicians, a member of the Sudanese Association of Gastroenterology since 1980, was an honorary member of American Society of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene, was a member and chairman of WHO-NTD Stag Working group on Monitoring Drug Efficacy, and presently chairman of Onchocerciasis Elimination Mapping, Project Advisory Group by Sightsavers and funded by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation which has started in February 2018.

He established and successfully running a private university (the University of Medical Sciences and Technology) and hospitals of the Academy Teaching Hospital, and three affiliated hospitals of Yastabshiroon, Al Zaytouna Specialized Hospital and Al Tamayouz Center for Accidents and Emergency.

As Professor of Medicine he is actively involved in teaching with his specialized training in Gastrointestinal Endoscopy, Abdominal Ultrasonography and Clinical Pharmacology.
