Yasser Sakr

Prof. Dr. Sakr is a Professor of anesthesiology and consultant in the Dept. of Anesthesiology and Intensive Care, Friedrich Schiller University, Jena, Germany. He was graduated in the faculty of medicine, Cairo University in 1995. After completion of a 1 year of internship and 3 years as a resident in the department of critical care in Cairo University hospitals, he was qualified as a specialist in intensive care medicine and was appointed to the position of assistant lecturer in critical care medicine in the faculty of medicine, Cairo University and has obtained the “Master” degree in Intensive Care in 2000. Dr. Sakr has spent 2 years as a research fellow in the department of intensive care, Erasme Hospital (Free University of Brussels) form 2001 to 2003 and has obtained the PhD from the same university in 2007. Since 2003, he works in the Dept. of Anesthesiology and Intensive Care, Friedrich Schiller University, Jena, Germany, where he obtained a Doctorate in Medicine “Dr. med.” in 2006, lecturer assignments in Anesthesiology “Privat Dozent” in 2010, and appointed as a Prof. of Anesthesiology in 2018.  He is the chair of the Systemic Inflammation and Sepsis Section (SIS) of the European Society of Intensive Care (ESICM) since 2015 and a section editor of the Journal of Critical Care.

He is the author and coauthor of more than 150 original articles and book chapters. The main area of clinical research is investigating innovative methods of assessment of the microcirculation in critically ill patients and outcome research in Intensive Care. The coordination and data management of the large European multicentre studies (SOAP, EPIC II, ICON, EPIC III studies) were among his prominent research activities over the last years. He is currently leading a research group in the Friedrich Schiller University Hospital in addition to his clinical assignments.
