Abdulelah Alhawsawi

Abdulelah is the CEO of Novo Genomics, a leading biotechnology company with a vision to become a regionally trusted, globally recognized leader in the field of genomics and multi-omics.

Abdulelah is the former Founding Director General of the Saudi Patient Safety Center (SPSC) and served as an Advisor on Patient Safety at the Saudi Ministry of Health. Under his leadership, the SPSC was designated as a WHO Collaborating Centre for Patient Safety Policies and Strategies, becoming one of only five such centers globally in this critical field.

He holds dual board certifications in General Surgery from boththe American and Canadian boards, with a sub-specialty inTransplant and Hepatobiliary Surgery. Abdulelah is a globally recognized consultant to numerous national and international organizations in the fields of quality and patient safety.

He currently serves as Vice President and Board Member of the Global Sepsis Alliance (GSA), Chair of the Eastern Mediterranean Sepsis Alliance (EMSA), and Board Member of the Joint Commission Resources Board. He was a key expert on the WHO’s 3rd Global Patient Safety Challenge panel. He chaired the Organizing Committee for the 4th Global Ministerial Summit on Patient Safety, hosted in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, in 2019. Notably, he played a vital role in elevating Patient Safety as a priority during Saudi Arabia’s G20 Presidency in 2020.

Abdulelah is a member of the WHO Global Patient Safety Action Plan Taskforce and has recently joined ISQua’s Academy of Quality and Safety in Health Care (IAQS), further reflecting his commitment to global healthcare excellence.
