Carolin Fleischmann-Struzek

Carolin is a physician and scientist at the Institute of Infection Medicine and Hospital Hygiene at Jena University Hospital. Her research focuses on the epidemiology, long-term consequences and prevention of sepsis and life-threatening infections. At the University Hospital Jena, she is leading a study on sepsis patient journeys (AVENIR, Innovation Fund-funded). Dr. Fleischmann-Struzek also served as a researcher for the World Health Organization between 2018 and 2020 and is a co-author of the first WHO "Global Report on Sepsis Epidemiology." In addition, Dr. Fleischmann-Struzek co-authored the first Global Burden of Disease study by the Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation (IHME) at the University of Washington to estimate the worldwide incidence of sepsis cases and deaths in the Global Burden of Disease system.
