David Lissauer

David is NIHR Professor of Global Maternal and Fetal Health and Head of Department at the University of Liverpool, and a Consultant Obstetrician at Liverpool Women’s Hospital. He also has a longstanding research focus in Malawi, as part of the Malawi-Liverpool-Wellcome research programme.
His research focuses on maternal infection and sepsis, spanning epidemiology, diagnostics, and large-scale implementation trials in low-resource settings.
He was chief-investigator of the APT-Sepsis programme, a multi-country cluster randomised trial of more than 430,000 women in Malawi and Uganda demonstrating the programme led to reductions in infection-related maternal mortality and severe morbidity (www.apt-sepsis.org).
His work includes the RCOG Green-top Guideline on maternal sepsis.
