Steve McGloughlin

Steve is an intensive care physician and infectious diseases physician at the Alfred Hospital in Melbourne. Since 2017, he has been the director of the Alfred ICU, a 70-bed quaternary intensive care unit specialising in trauma, advanced cardiac support, ECMO, and burns.
Steve is also a technical consultant for the World Health Organisation in the health emergencies and pandemic preparedness program, where he served as the focal point for developing clinical guidelines on influenza and diphtheria.
He has published in a significant number of major international journals, with a focus on improving the quality of care in sepsis. He has completed a Master’s of Public Health and a Master’s of International Health Leadership. He is also a member of several major national and international guidelines, including the Surviving Sepsis Campaign, therapeutic guidelines, and the National COVID-19 Clinical Evidence Taskforce.
Steve is the current Clinical Director of the Australian Living Evidence Collaboration, which includes the COVID-19 National Clinical Evidence Taskforce, and is a Professor of Evidence Synthesis and Implementation Methods at Monash University.
His particular ongoing clinical interests include health equity in critical care and sepsis.
