Tom van der Poll

Tom is Professor of Medicine at the Academic Medical Center (AMC), University of Amsterdam, the Netherlands. He is Head of the Center of Experimental and Molecular Medicine and Chair of the Division of Infectious Diseases in this institution. Van der Poll is board-certified in Internal Medicine and Infectious Diseases. He is a member of the Dutch Health Council, the official advisory board of the Dutch government and parliament. He is the current Chair of the International Sepsis Forum.

His training included a postdoctoral research fellowship at Cornell University Medical College in New York (1993-1995). Van der Poll is a former Fellow of the Royal Dutch Academy of Arts and Sciences (1995-2000). His research focuses on the innate immune and procoagulant response during sepsis. He has published more than 600 original articles and over 60 book chapters on this topic.
