Julia Bielicki

Julia is Professor of Paediatric Infectious Diseases at City St George’s, University of London, and Professor of Paediatric Clinical Pharmacology at the University of Basel. At the University Children’s Hospital Basel (UKBB), she serves as Senior Consultant in Infectious Diseases and Vaccinology, leads paediatric infection prevention and control, and directs the Paediatric Research Centre.

Her research focuses on optimising antibiotic use in neonates and children, spanning international multicentre trials in paediatric pneumonia and neonatal sepsis, as well as innovative infection‑prevention strategies in low‑ and middle‑income countries. She is a Senior Principal Investigator at the Centre for Neonatal and Paediatric Infection in London, leads the European infection‑prevention initiative NeoIPC, and coordinates the Penta network’s working group on severe bacterial infections and antimicrobial resistance. She also contributes to Switzerland’s national antibiotic stewardship programme.

Julia studied Medicine and Social and Political Sciences at the University of Cambridge, completed her MD at the University of Zurich, and holds an MPH and PhD in Public Health from the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine. She is board‑certified in Paediatrics and Infectious Diseases and completed her habilitation (Venia Legendi) at the University of Basel with a focus on antibiotic prescribing and antimicrobial resistance. She has authored more than 100 scientific publications.
