Mike English

Mike is a Wellcome Trust Senior Research Fellow and Professor of International Child Health at the University of Oxford, UK where he leads the Health Systems Collaborative. He lived and worked in Kenya for 25 years and remains a Senior Researcher in the KEMRI–Wellcome Programme. He created the Kenya Basic Paediatric Protocols and the ETAT+ course that is now used across Africa and conducts large scale implementation and quality of care studies with Kenyan hospitals that employ quantitative and qualitative methods. He established the Clinical Information Network (CIN) in 2013 in collaboration with Kenya's Ministry of Health, the Kenya Paediatric Association and the University of Nairobi as a low-cost Learning Health System generating enhanced routine data on all neonatal and child admissions to 24 Kenyan hospitals to promote quality improvement and support Kenyan research.  He has worked with WHO on many initiatives joining the Strategic and Technical Advisory Group of Experts (STAGE) for Maternal, Neonatal, Child and Adolescent Health and Nutrition in 2020.
