Jamie is a Reader at the Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine and Wellcome Clinical Research Development Fellow. He is based in Malawi and leads the Lung Health group at the Malawi-Liverpool Wellcome Research Programme in Blantyre.

His primary research interest is on the pragmatic clinical management of acute illness in Low-Income Countries, and how chronic illnesses including HIV and non-communicable diseases affect clinical management and outcomes. In Malawi, he is examining cardiovascular responses to fluid resuscitation amongst septic adults in Malawi at macrovascular and microvascular levels (using echocardiography and sublingual microscopy respectively).

Jamie co-directs the NIHR-funded African Research Collaboration on Sepsis (ARCS). This multinational platform seeks to establish how high-quality care in critically unwell patients in Low-Income Countries can be delivered.
